Port Canaveral King Mackerel or Kingfish Charter

Port Canaveral and it's surrounding waters hold some of the largest concentrations of King Mackerel in the world. During the calm summer months Lagooner fishing guide, Captain Richard Bradley spends much of his time livebaiting for smoker sized kingfish. "I'm not sure how the name Smoker Kingfish came into being, but I've heard it was because larger king fish make the fishing reel smoke off the line so fast or that many people choose to smoke the larger king fish rather than grill, bake or fry. Personally I've seen people burn their thumbs on the spool trying to slow down these speedy gamefish and that's what I call a Smoker Kingfish." informed Captain Richard when asked about what a "Smoker" Kingfish was.

During the summer king mackerel spawn along the beaches and can be targeted by anglers with livebait. "It's as exciting as fishing gets when you hookup with these large pelagic fish on light tackle" explains Captain Gina, "Captain Richard often comes home with over 100 lbs of great eating fish for anglers to bring home and feast on when they get back to the docks. Many of our anglers take the fish immediately to a local restaurant at the Port for them to cook and eat after a day on the water.

"I have a great recipe that one of our friends developed for king mackerel and if you want to try it out go to my website, it's simply called Flavory Fish and it's awesome. Our kids love fresh kingfish baked this way and I'm sure you'll like it too." Look up Captain Gina's recipe for Flavory Fish by clicking [here].

Charter Fishing Updates for King Mackerel out of Port Canaveral Florida

Hello,
I'm Captain Richard Bradley and this year's king mackerel fishing has been superb. My techniques for helping my anglers find and target kingfish on light tackle is an excellent way for people visiting our area near Port Canaveral to enjoy a day pulling on fish and enjoying our Florida sunshine. I only fish for king mackerel in the summer months so from June to September you'll find me fishing along our beaches in pursuit of tarpon, snook, redfish, cobia, tripletail and of course king mackerel It's been a great year of fishing in 2008 and next summer should prove to be even better as our Florida Wildlife Commission has managed the fish stocks and the king mackerel fishing is rebounding well.

As always I look forward to hearing from many of you soon, if you need to contact Captain Gina and set up a charter please call her at (321) 868-4953 or just fill out the form on the left.

God Bless,

Captain Richard Bradley

"Captain Richard took me out for a day of fishing this summer of 2008 and I had a blast pulling in loads of big king mackerel while getting a tan out of Port Canaveral." Explained explains Captain Gina in the adjacent photo with her nicest king that day.

Where Is Port Canaveral Florida?

Port Canaveral is located between Daytona Beach and Fort Pierce and is directly east of Orlando and it's theme parks Disney, Universal Studios and Sea World. Port Canaveral is almost dead center on Central Florida's eastern shoreline and it's also the epicenter of fishing on it's coastline. Located thirty minutes due east of the Orlando International Airport on exit 52 is the small Kelly Park where you will launch with your guide and visit such famous locations like Mosquito Lagoon, the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River Lagoon and further south to Sebastian Inlet. The adventurous may want to visit the deep blue sea and experience offshore fishing and deep sea fishing out of Port Canaveral (four minutes east of Kelly Park). Take a look at our Central Florida Fishing Destinations page for more information.
